Legal advice ignored

SHAME on deputy mayor Sally Dover and her disciples on the council for wilfully ignoring their own staff’s legal advice to remove reference to Jesus from the council prayer.

Claiming that the majority of councillors are Christian ignores the fact they are obliged to represent ALL the constituents of the shire, not just those who share the same beliefs.

If Ms Dover and her mayor wish to fight a culture war over the decline of religious belief in this country they should do it in their own time and not during council business.

While many readers will see this as a trivial issue, it is indicative of their ongoing refusal to heed the advice of the council’s legal experts and treats with contempt those ratepayers who feel that religious rituals should have no place in local politics.
